Why I made this

A 10-minute queue at Lisbon airport did it.

Ten minutes passed and I am still waiting for a toilet stall. The whole time I could hear the unmistakable sounds of slot machines and other mobile games coming from inside.

This is when it dawned on me: phones + toilets = a problem for the human race.

So I built a small wooden box that mounts on your bathroom door — outside, or inside, whichever you prefer. Slide your phone in on the way in, grab it on the way out. You come back to a germ-free phone, and hopefully you've done your colon a favour by speeding things up. Nothing complicated — just somewhere for the phone to wait.

It won't change the world. But if it gets you, your partner, or your kid out of the bathroom a little faster, it will make me happy.

— Anthony, drop it.

Icon representing bacteria — your phone carries 20x more bacteria than a toilet seat

20× more bacteria than a toilet seat

Your phone carries toilet spittle, E. coli, Staph, MRSA — every time you flush with the lid open, bacteria travels up to 6 feet. Only 1 in 4 people ever clean it.

Icon representing haemorrhoid risk from prolonged toilet sitting

46% higher haemorrhoid risk

The toilet seat cuts off circulation to rectal veins. Scrollers sit 5× longer. Doctors are seeing this in younger patients than ever before.

54 hours a year on the toilet.

The average bowel movement takes 2 minutes. We're averaging 9. Gen Z spends the equivalent of 54 hours a year scrolling on the toilet. That's two full days. On the loo.

Family waiting outside a bathroom door because someone is scrolling on their phone

Nobody likes waiting. Especially not for the toilet.

Your teenager has been in there 45 minutes. Your partner too. The bathroom used to take 2 minutes. Now it's a streaming platform.

Drop it fixes that — for the whole household.

drop it cavemen

We used to be fine without it.

Before smartphones, humans averaged 51 seconds on the toilet. No scrolling. No haemorrhoids. No queue outside the door. Our caveman friends on the front of the box are a reminder: you survived 300,000 years without taking your phone to the toilet. You can do two minutes. Drop it is just a gentle wooden reminder.

Early testers

★★★★★

"My son used to spend 40 minutes in the bathroom every morning. I thought he had a stomach problem. Turns out he was watching YouTube. Since we put drop it on the wall he's in and out in under 5. I genuinely didn't think a wooden box could change family life but here we are."

Sandra M., mother of two · Amsterdam

★★★★★

"I started timing my husband as a joke. 23 minutes. Every single morning. I bought drop it mostly to win an argument. Now he's done in 3 minutes and he actually admitted it feels better. I've never felt so vindicated by a piece of furniture."

Léa R. · Paris

★★★★★

"I was doing research on phone hygiene for my biology degree and genuinely couldn't finish my lunch after reading about toilet spittle. Every flush sends bacteria up to 6 feet. Your phone sits right there and catches all of it. I bought drop it the same day. It's not even about the scrolling for me — I just can't unknow what I know."
